Fast Facts

  • Born January 29, 1952 in Budapest, Hungary
  • Given Name: Tamás Erdélyi
  • Tommy Ramone was the drummer for The Ramones, who are widely considered the first punk rock band
  • Tommy was inducted with the Ramones into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002
  • Tommy loves folk music and played folk guitar as a kid
  • He was originally the Ramones’ band manager but after the group’s first show he became the drummer
  • Before the Ramones, Tommy had never touched a drum set before in his life.  He only drummed for the band because they couldn’t find anyone else who could play fast enough
  • The Ramones signature look (leather jackets and ripped blue jeans) and fast, rough songs established the punk aesthetic
  • Tommy left the band in the spring of 1977 because he liked producing more.  He produced the Ramones’ fourth album Road to Ruin
  • The Ramones’ 1984 album Too Tough to Die was also largely produced by Tommy
  • He started an indie-acoustic band called Uncle Monk with folk musician Claudia Tienan in the 2000’s; the duo has the complete opposite style and sound of the Ramones
  • He has independently written music over the years for artists like Sonic Youth, Morrissey, Skid Row, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and New Found Glory, and has produced albums for Talking Heads and The Replacements

Greetings Citizens,

In February of 1998 I had the pleasure of speaking with Ray Manzarek.  We discussed the stamps of The Doors that were just released and I asked him about The Doors movie, directed by Oliver Stone.  We are deeply saddened by Ray's passing but the music will always live on!

Cheers,

Pierre

Thursday afternoon, I had the chance to speak with the lead vocalist of one of my favorite bands, RIVAL SONS. They just released their 3rd album in the USA (March 19th) called Head Down. It's an amazing record. Jay and I discussed many a topic in the hour we conversed. We talked about the new record, Rock N Roll, Snowboarding, Touring, and a whole lot more. I really enjoyed our conversation and I hope you do as well. Get more information about Rival Sons at Their Facebook Page, HERE. Or, go to their website, HERE. And, don't forget to follow Rival Sons on Twitter. Thank you so much for listening,
