Operation XO is a local non-profit organization started by Heather McKnight Hamilton and Amanda Riker, two army wives whose husbands are currently serving in remote locations in Afghanistan. The organization’s mission is to send necessary food and toiletries to soldiers serving in remote locations in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan and improve the quality of life for those defending our freedom and protecting our country.
Although our military provides the basics of food, shelter, and gear, however, the troops that are stationed in remote locations, especially combat zones, far from stores of any kind, do not have access to necessities they desperately need to be readily available to them. That is where Operation XO comes in to assist these fine men and women. Our organization provides items such as baby wipes (when showers are scarce), deodorant, toothpaste, and especially sun block. We also provide cereal bars, protein bars, tuna or chicken in foil pouches to try and help replace the calories that are quickly burned while walking through deserts or mountains in searing heat carrying 75+ lbs. of gear.
At this time, we are making great strides in contributions of toiletries and food from kind citizens and small companies who have shown great support. However, as this is a new organization, we are trying to spread the word of our mission to many.
There will be a beef and beer on November 20, 2010 at the FOP (More details to follow.)
