- Wolf received a grant to attend the Boston Museum school of Fine Arts
- He was a disc jockey on WBCN-FM, and was the host of the show The All-Night House Party
- While working in radio, he gave himself the nickname “Woolfa Goofa” or sometimes “Woolfa Goofa with the Green Teeth”, which resulted in his stage name “Peter Wolf”
- While still a student, he joined a band called the Hallucinations, and performed with John Lee Hooker, the Velvet Underground and Muddy Waters
- Wolf joined the J. Geils band in 1967 as the lead singer
- The band once performed as special guest with the Rolling Stones
- Their first hit single was “Centerfold” in the early 80s
- Wolf and J. Geils keyboardist Seth Justman were responsible for writing most of the J. Geils Band’s hit songs
- Wolf left the band in 1983 following the release of Freeze Frame, citing creative differences
- He toured with the Royal Soul Review in 1998
- His 1998 album, Fool’s Parade, is considered one of the 50 most Influential Recorded Albums of the decade by Rolling Stone

- Wolf co-writes much of his solo material with lyricist Will Jennings
- Wolf periodically returns to his first love, art, by painting scenes from his favorite artists
- He has returned to the J. Geils Band as the lead singer periodically, most notably in 2010 when the band played a sold-out show with Aerosmith at Boston’s Fenway Park
