8/18/2014

Seattle-based music producer Rick Parashar, who produced Pearl Jam's classic debut album Ten and other major rock records of the past two decades, has died at the age of 50. According to Northwest Music Scene, Parashar died Thursday afternoon (August 14th) of a pulmonary embolism after a blood clot moved from his leg to his heart.

In addition to Ten, Parashar also produced the self-titled Temple Of The Dog album, Alice In Chains' Sap EP, the multi-platinum 3 Doors Down disc Away From The Sun and Nickelback's 2001 breakthrough effort, Silver Side Up, which sold more than six million copies.

  • His other production credits include albums from Bon Jovi and Blind Melon.
  • Parashar, who played piano, organ and percussion, played multiple instruments on the Pearl Jam tracks "Black" and "Jeremy," as well as the Temple Of The Dog songs "Call Me A Dog," "All Night Thing" and "Times Of Trouble."
  • In 1985, Parashar and his brother Raj founded Seattle's London Bridge Studio, which became a central recording location for the grunge movement in the early '90s.
