Stone Temple Pilots and singer Chester Bennington are working on new music for the band's next release, according to a pair of tweets posted by STP bassist Robert DeLeo. Although Bennington is fully immersed in promotion and touring for the new Linkin Park record, DeLeo tweeted that they spent time together over this past weekend working on fresh STP material.

Bennington joined STP in May 0f 2013 following the band's dismissal of founding frontman Scott Weiland. Guitarist Dean DeLeo told us at the time that Bennington was their first and only choice to replace him:"We simply did not have a list of guys we were thinking of, we didn't hold auditions, we thought of Chester and that was it. It's very interesting, honestly, because Chester told me a story that when he was dating his wife about nine years ago, he told her that one day he was gonna get a call from us to be the singer of this band."

  • STP's first foray into the studio with Bennington, an EP called High Rise, came out last October and yielded the Number One single "Out Of Time."
  • The band toured last fall, but plans for more recording were put on hold so that Bennington could work on the new Linkin Park CD, The Hunting Party, which arrived last month.

INTERNET COMMENTS at Blabbermouth -- agree or not?

Phil Rappaport wrote: "There are a million great singers out there, who would love to sing for STP and are not busy with their "main" band and have time to commit to one project, how about getting one of them???"

Nico Sier wrote: "who would you prefer then? the EP was quite good. Chester has my blessing to go and lead the new album. I would have been more excited if Scott was there, but hey, he's a star."

Manfred Spindle wrote: "The Deleo sisters look happy - for a change. Believe me, it won't last long."

Alemano Vestiar wrote: "stone temple pilots is one of the best rock band out there...i am sad that scott is so bad as a person as he is a great singer and the reason why i loved the band so much...hope time will change him..."
