Foster The People releases its second album on Tuesday (March 18th), titled Supermodel. Frontman Mark Foster told that the theme of the disc is interpersonal communications in the modern world, explaining, "We have this new technology and we don’t really know what its long term effects will be . . . I feel like kids are getting more and more used to communicating through a glass screen than they are face-to-face and that worries me a little.”


Foster added about the album's title, “I feel we’re living in a supermodel culture. Through technology and social media we’re able to create an identity online that shows people the face that we want them to see and rather than who they really are."

  • The first single from Supermodel, called "Coming Of Age," is currently Number Five on the Modern Rock chart.
  • The new disc follows up 2011's debut Torches, which contained the massive crossover hit "Pumped Up Kicks" as well as the Modern Rock Top 10 tracks "Helena Beat" and "Don't Stop (Color On The Walls)."
  • Foster The People will play in Toronto this Friday (March 21st) before launching a North American tour on April 8th in Pomona, California.


  • Mark Foster and producer Paul Epworth began work on the new album in Morocco in 2012, with later recording sessions taking place in Malibu, New York City and London.
  • The cover of the new CD, as well as Torches, was painted by a Dutch artist known as Young & Sick. A 130-foot mural of the cover art was recently hung from a building in downtown Los Angeles.
  • "Pumped Up Kicks" has sold more than five million downloads to date, making it the sixth-largest selling alternative digital song of all time. The album has moved nearly a million copies.
