Keith Richards is heading downtown. NY.curbed.com reported that the 70-year rocker and his wife of 30 years, model Patti Hansen, have plonked down a cool $10.5 million for the new Manhattan digs, only two blocks away from the iconic Washington Square Park. The new home "is comprised of three previously separate units. The duplex penthouse. . . has three terraces on its first floor, custom millwork throughout, and 'pivoting and sliding panels.'" Keith and his Mrs. got the dwelling on the cheap, with the space having been languishing on the market since December 2012 with an original listing of a whopping $15 million -- saving the couple an impressive $4.5 million with the newly reduced price tag.
Richards' primary residence remains his Weston, Connecticut estate, along with his West Wittering mansion in England -- where his, Mick Jagger, and Marianne Faithfull’s infamous 1967 drug bust took place. Richards, who for years lived on the Upper West Side, also has an estate in Kingston, Jamaica, and a home in the exclusive Parrot Cay enclave in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
- Although Keith Richards' pirate-like rock star ways are one of the first things people think about when focusing on the Rolling Stones' guitarist -- he remains the proud father of four with a growing brood of grandchildren: “Families, I mean, let's face it — we all come from one. You have a mum and a dad and then you grow up and then suddenly (laughs) you’ve got kids (laughs). Of course family’s important. It’s a very important thing. I tell ya, the interesting thing is to watch ‘em actually grow up. Y’know it’s one of those things you sit back and watch.”
- The Rolling Stones will next perform on Wednesday (March 12th) in Shanghai, China at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
DID YOU KNOW????
- One of Keith Richards' most beloved solo tracks came about through one of his other New York City apartments.
- Richards and collaborator Steve Jordan were using Richards’ Manhattan apartment — which had previously been used by his son Marlon, his niece Marisa, and her roommate Eileen. Upon relocating the trio and reclaiming the apartment, the phone rang nonstop for Eileen, which inspired the song "Eileen" from Richards' second solo album, 1992’s Main Offender.
