Nine Inch Nails may have put out a new album in March but frontman Trent Reznor gives credit to David Bowie as having one of the best releases of the year. The rocker discussed his love for Bowie's The Next Day during a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter.

Trent said, "He's proved himself so many times that I sit back and trust him. Often, he's so far ahead of the game, it takes time to catch up. It didn't sound like how I thought it might sound. I thought maybe it was a bit conservative sonically." Reznor admitted that he appreciated the album the more he listened to it. He continued, "I'm still unraveling the riddle that he presented. I'm still getting new meanings out of the lyrics. What I thought was conservative production now feels forward-thinking. Like any great album, it's revealed itself to be something that wasn't what I initially thought."

  • Trent also gave kudos to Bowie's marketing approach saying, "It wasn't like the Arcade Fire album Reflektor and its yearlong rollout, where it was like, 'OK, I get it. You've got an album out, you've played every TV show in the world.'"
  • Bowie's album scored two Grammy nominations -- Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance for "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)"
  • Nine Inch Nails' Hesitation Marksnabbed a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
  • David and Trent collaborated on the single "I'm Afraid of Americans" off of Bowie's 1997 album Earthling

  • Neil Hopkins on says, "I remember seeing you both in '96 at the Outside tour ... one of my earliest and fondest memories. you are both legends in your own capacity; the contributions you've made and still make to the music scene are innumerable. Thank you for being so awesome."
  • GregB on says, "Bowie is the alpha-omega of rock artists. no one comes close to his fearlessness in creating unique album themes, sound scapes (Station to Station, Aladdin Sane, Scary Monsters) and going where no rock star has gone before ( Berlin Trilogy ). even Bowie's stumbles are works of art compared to some of the talentless joke music artists of today. David Bowie is simply amazing."
  • Ghostbox on says, "The Next Day and Hesitation Marks are both two of my favorite 2013 releases. Very heavy rotation also in these days."
