FOO FIGHTERS PLAY SURPRISE GIG IN PIZZA JOINT

12/11/2013

Foo Fighters played a surprise show on Monday night (December 9th) at Rock & Roll Pizza in Moorpark, California, presumably as a warm-up for the group's upcoming stadium gigs in Mexico City. According to Loudwire, the band tore through a 23-song set that opened with "All My Life" and closed with "Everlong" but did not feature any new material from the act's next studio effort.

  • Other Foos classics aired during the gig included "The Pretender," "Learn To Fly," "Walk," "These Days," "Monkey Wrench," "This Is A Call" and "Times Like These," as well as a cover of the Tom Petty classic, "Breakdown."
  • The Foos have played other small shows, usually at clubs, just prior to releasing new albums. Drummer Taylor Hawkins told us that some of his favorite shows are the smaller ones: "I really enjoy it. I love playing in clubs and I love doing stuff like that. I really do and I always will. And I don't know if it's because it kind of takes me back to my, you know, my youth, kind of, you know, being in my teens and playing in people's garages and it's the same exact s*** I did when I was 16, you know."
  • The band's Mexico City shows will take place on Wednesday (December 11th) and Friday (December 13th) at the 55,000-capacity Foro Sol stadium, marking the band's live debut in that country.
  • Frontman Dave Grohl recently dropped a few more hints about the band's upcoming eighth studio album to Rolling Stone, saying, "We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before."
