PANIC! AT THE DISCO, KORN, ALTER BRIDGE, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS MAKE CHART DEBUTS

10/17/2013

Panic! At The Disco's new album, Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die, sold 84,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at Number Two on the Billboard chart on Wednesday (October 16th). This is the second time the Las Vegas group has entered the chart at Number Two, following its 2008 album Pretty. Odd. The band's last effort, 2011's Vices & Virtues, debuted at Number Seven with 56,000 copies.

Panic's album was left in the dust by controversy magnet Miley Cyrus' Bangerz, which entered the chart at Number One with sales of 270,000 copies.

  • Panic! At The Disco has undergone no small amount of drama in the past few years, with personnel changes and drummer Spencer Smith's battles with addiction. But singer Brendon Urie told us that he keeps his focus these days on the present: "I have no regrets about the past and I look forward to the future without concentrating on it too much because, you know, nobody knows what it holds and I think that, you know, focusing on the present and what you have now is very important to being happy."
  • Also debuting in the Top 10 was The Paradigm Shift, the 11th studio effort from Korn. The disc debuted at Number Eight with sales of 46,000 copies. Korn's previous LP, 2011's The Path Of Totality, opened with 55,000 copies to debut at Number 10.
  • The next big rock debut was Alter Bridge's Fortress, which shifted 30,000 copies to land at Number 12.
  • Meanwhile, Stone Temple Pilots' High Rise EP, its first release with Chester Bennington on vocals, sold 12,000 copies to enter the chart at Number 24.

WHAT DO YOU THINK??

  • Any of the chart numbers surprise you?
  • Did you go out and buy any of last week's new albums?
  • Did you think Korn would do better because of the hype surrounding the return of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch?
  • Did you think STP would do better because of the interest in their new singer?

INTERNET COMMENTS at various outlets -- agree or not?

Jarrad Williams wrote: "I was hoping Panic at the Disco would've at least sold 100K or more their first week but 84K is not that bad. I keep forgetting how album sales have declined over the past several years."

Sandro Jose Sanjurjo wrote: "Korn's best album since untouchables, but its sad they're only selling 46k, when they used to sell over 500k in the issues era."

Rohit Rathi wrote: "12k is a good sales for an ep. Stp with weiland released an ep called a taste of in 2011 which didn't even sell 1k."

Travis Lowell wrote: "12,000 copies is not bad at all for an EP these days. A full-length album would have performed much better, sales-wise."
