Paul Simon will be giving lectures, performing and participating in conversations later this month at Atlanta's Emory University, according to the college's newsletter. Simon appearances will be spread over three days, beginning with -- Lecture: "Sailing on an Endless Sea: My Life as a Songwriter" on September 22nd; Conversation with Paul Simon and former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins on September 23rd; Lecture: "View from Cloud: The Solitary Artist in a Collaborative Culture" on September 23rd; and Music Performance by Paul Simon with guitarist Mark Stewart on September 24th. Tickets will be available for the events on September 9th starting at 10:00 am ET.

Paul Simon has always rated his creative autonomy as the most important by-product of being an active songwriter and musician: "I always pursued a course that seemed interesting to me and that I hoped would be interesting to someone else, y'know -- to a lot of people, I hoped. But if it didn't, or if it wasn't -- I never had any intention of changing. Actually, I don't think I could have been, or am, capable of changing."

  • We asked Simon about how turning 70 during the writing and recording of the 2010 critically acclaimed So Beautiful Or So What effected the nature of the material: "I think what else would -- If you're trying to tell the truth about something, about anything and your life is the story that you're most familiar with; well then certainly, all those elements would certainly come into play, y'know, as you get older. I think it's fine, and I don't feel any attachment to the subject matter in terms of defending it."

  • On October 15th Paul Simon will release the 15-CD retrospective, Paul Simon - The Complete Albums Collection. The set features all of Simon's solo work -- including the 1965 album, The Paul Simon Songbook, which was recorded and released between Simon & Garfunkel's 1964 debut, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. and the duo's 1966 breakthrough collection, Sounds Of Silence.
  • The album features all of Simon's studio and live sets -- The Paul Simon Songbook (1965), Paul Simon (1972), There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), Paul Simon In Concert: Live Rhymin' (1974), Still Crazy After All These Years (1975), One-Trick Pony (1980), Hearts And Bones (1983), Graceland (1986), The Rhythm Of The Saints (1990), Paul Simon's Concert In The Park - August 15, 1991 (1991), Songs From The Capeman (1997), You're The One (2000), Surprise (2006), and So Beautiful Or So What (2011).
  • The only album missing from the box set is 2012's Live In New York City.
