8/23/2013

Green Day wished a happy birthday to The Clash's frontman Joe Strummer Wednesday night (August 21st) during their set at O2 Academy Brixton in London. NME has reported that the birthday wish occurred during the show -- which included a full performance of the band's 1994 album Dookie.

The band's singer Billie Joe Armstrong wished Strummer a happy birthday right before they played "Letterbomb," which was the fifth song in their three-hour set. Frank Turner also dedicated his song "Recover" to The Clash singer at the Reading and Leeds Festival.

  • Strummer -- who died in 2002, would have turned 61 on Wednesday (August 21st).
