Music News

When Stone Sour and Slipknot singer Corey Taylor's home and storage unit in West Des Moines, Iowa were robbed recently of musical equipment to the tune of $36,000, the Des Moines Register reported that two of the stolen instruments were bass guitars that once belonged to late Slipknot bass player Paul Gray. But Taylor got in touch with us to set the record straight: "The newspaper in Des Moines, who didn't get the facts straight before they printed the story, said that it was Paul's actual basses. That's not true. They were Paul Gray Signature basses that we got from Ibanez to have with us on the road, so we could have them onstage. It was not Paul's actual basses. Thank you, Des Moines Register."

  • Taylor reported last Friday (July 12th) that 98 percent of the stolen equipment has been recovered.
  • The theft was allegedly perpetrated by a Taylor family friend who was watching their house while Taylor and his wife were on tour in Europe last month.
  • Suspicion fell on the friend when he was overheard trying to buy some of the gear back from a local music shop.
  • Taylor is on the road again this week for several signing events to promote the release of his new book, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven (Or, How I Made Peace With The Paranormal And Stigmatized Zealots And Cynics In The Process). The book arrived on Tuesday (July 15th).
  • Taylor will make his way to San Diego on Saturday (July 20th) to sign copies of the book and his House Of Gold And Bones comic book series at the massive geek culture event Comic-Con.

  • Should the Des Moines Register apologize to Taylor for the error?
  • Have you ever had anything stolen that was irreplaceable, like something from a deceased loved one or family member?
  • If you were Taylor, would you press charges against the "friend"?
