VAN HALEN KICKS OFF JAPANESE TOUR WITH EXTENDED SET LIST

6/21/2013

Van Halen kicked off its Japanese tour in Nagoya on Tuesday (June 18th), playing just its second concert of 2013. According to the Van Halen News Desk, the show featured 27 songs and ran for two hours and 20 minutes. Three extra songs -- "Atomic Punk," "Jamie's Cryin'" and "Mean Street" -- were added to the group's usual 24-number set list. Singer David Lee Roth's recently released short film, Tokyo Story, played on a video screen behind him during his introduction for "Ice Cream Man."

  • Before the show, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen posted a photo of himself and his father Eddie backstage, writing "We're almost ready for ya, Nagoya. Just gotta tune up real quick... "
  • The gig was the first of four Japanese shows originally scheduled for last fall, which were postponed while Eddie recovered from surgery for diverticulitis.
  • The band plays in Tokyo on Friday (June 21st) before doing two shows in Osaka next week. They're also scheduled to appear at the annual Rock USA festival, scheduled for July 17th through July 20th in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
  • Van Halen's first show of the year and first since last spring took place in April at a festival in Australia.
  • The group canceled 31 North American dates last summer, citing exhaustion. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen was then sidelined for four to six months after undergoing his surgery.
