A new documentary chronicling the worldwide love affair between Bruce Springsteen and his legendary die-hard fan base is hitting theaters on July 22nd. Backstreets.com reported that the Ridley Scott-produced Springsteen & I film will play for one night only simultaneously across the globe, with tickets going on sale on June 4th. For more information, log on to BruceSpringsteen.net and the movie's official website, SpringsteenAndI.com.
The movie's website posted an introduction to the film, stating, "Forty years ago, Bruce Springsteen burst onto the rock scene and changed it forever. His music defines a generation, but behind the songs were remarkable stories about the fans who lived them. Now audiences everywhere can discover how the sound of Bruce Springsteen became the soundtrack to our lives."
- Bruce Springsteen has long maintained that his live performances are the backbone of his career, which connects him not only to the audience and his bandmates, but ultimately to himself: "I knew that the most important thing to me was when I walked out -- whether it was in a little bar on any stage, how it made me feel. Because I wanna do -- find some way in. Some way to be a part of, I guess, a community that was either really there or that I imagined. That I dreamt of."
- Springsteen was asked how he accounts for the steady stream of new converts with every new album and tour: "We sort of skipped a generation somewhere in there, and then the last tour, we noticed a large influx of young people. I think for probably the same reasons that I went to check out, y'know, not just the (Rolling) Stones, but Chuck Berry, or the guys that came a generation or two before my age group. But I also think today. . . there was a time when music was intensely factionalized, it was very hard along generational lines, and I think -- it might have something to do with the Internet or some other things -- that people are just taking their music where they find it."
- Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band perform on Sunday (May 26th) in Munich, Germany.
