Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard will release a new solo album called Moonlander on June 25th, according to Billboard.com. Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, singer/songwriter Pete Droge, drummer Regan Hagar from Gossard's other band Brad and others will make guest appearances on the record, which is Gossard's second solo effort and first since 2001's Bayleaf.
The 11 songs on the new disc will be released one at a time, with a new track and original artwork from Gossard posted online at Pearl Jam's website every Tuesday morning. The first song, "I Need Something Different. went up yesterday (April 16th) and is available as a free download.
- Eight songs from Moonlander will also be released on two digital four-song EPs through iTunes on May 7th and June 4th, titled Apollo and Luna.
- Although Gossard does sing on his solo material, he told us that he doesn't think of himself as a vocalist: "I've played with some of the greatest singers, you know, in the world, in my mind, in terms of people that I love their lyrics, their vocal tonality -- people who are really natural singers. And I kind of consider myself to be a singer in a secondary sense, that you've got to kind of step up and go, 'Okay, well, it still could be good,' even if it's not."
- Most of the material on Moonlander was recorded between 2003 and 2011, with Gossard saying, "I went through all of my old demos and recordings that weren't used as Pearl Jam or Brad songs and picked my favorites."
- Meanwhile, Pearl Jam will play in London, Ontario on July 16th, Chicago's Wrigley Field on July 19th, and at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans in early November. The band is also working on its 10th studio album.
