Music News

Out Tuesday (April 9th) is the fifth album from Denmark's Volbeat, called Outlaw Gentlemen And Shady Ladies. It has a tough act to follow in 2010's Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, which yielded three rock radio Number Ones and established Volbeat in the U.S. as a group to watch. But frontman Michael Poulsen told us that the band has topped itself this time out: "Without any doubt and without sounding too cliche, I believe this is the strongest work we've ever done. Everything I wanted to accomplish and achieve on our new record is spot-on on this album. We had so much eagerness to put Volbeat up on another level where we thought that we could push ourselves a little bit more. These songs are really, really strong and we're very proud of them."

  • Former Anthrax member Rob Caggiano, who was a producer on the new disc, recently joined the band as its new guitarist. He replaces Thomas Bredahl, who was given his walking papers in November 2011.
  • The first single from the new album is "The Hangman's Body Count."
  • Late last week, Volbeat made a song from the album called "Room 24" available as a free download. The track is a collaboration with singer King Diamond of the legendary cult metal act Mercyful Fate, probably the biggest hard rock band before Volbeat to ever emerge from Denmark.
  • Volbeat is currently on a spring tour of North America that next stops in New York City on Tuesday night.
