Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl dropped a few hints about the band's next album while on the red carpet before a screening of his movie Sound City on Wednesday (March 13th) at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Asked about the status of the group's eighth studio effort, Grohl said it's in its earliest stages: "What I've found is that we work best at our own pace, and sometimes it happens quickly, sometimes it takes a while. But I have kind of a crazy idea of what I want to do with the next record and how we record it. It won't be a conventional record."
- Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins told Billboard.com that the follow-up to 2011's Wasting Light is "just sort of a germ in Dave's head at this point. He says he's got a lot of ideas. We haven't really gotten down to brass tacks. I don't know what the path will be. It's always a little different, which is good."
- Grohl and the Sound City Players -- including Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick and Rick Springfield -- were scheduled to perform Thursday night (March 14th) at South By Southwest.
- Although this is the last scheduled performance by the Players, Grohl said that future shows by the ensemble are possible.
- Meanwhile, Grohl also gave the keynote address on Thursday morning (March 14th) at South By Southwest, in which he touched on his youth, his musical influences, his introduction to punk rock, the making of Nirvana's Nevermind, the death of Kurt Cobain and his daughters' discovery of the Beatles.
