Not one but two new Green Day documentaries will premiere at the 2013 South By Southwest music and film festival, scheduled to run between March 8th and 16th in Austin, Texas. The first Green Day documentary will be Cuatro!, the behind-the-scenes chronicle of the making of the band's three new albums, Uno!, Dos! and Tre!. The second one is Broadway Idiot, which follows Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong as he makes his way to Broadway with the stage musical version of the band's 2004 punk opera, American Idiot.
Billboard reports that also premiering will be Artifact, which details the brutal, year-long battle that 30 Seconds To Mars fought with its record label as it made its third album, This Is War. The film was directed by singer Jared Leto under his Bartholomew Cubbins pseudonym.
- Also showing at the festival will be Dave Grohl's Sound City documentary, which premiered last month at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. The Foo Fighters frontman directed the movie, which is about a legendary Los Angeles recording studio.
- The film premiered in Los Angeles on Thursday night (January 31st) and opens Friday (February 1st) in limited theatrical release, while also now available on DVD and VOD.
- More than 109 films will screen at South By Southwest, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The lineup features 68 films from first-time filmmakers, 69 world premieres, 14 North American premieres and five U.S. premieres.
