The Airborne Toxic Event has released "Timeless," the first single from the band's upcoming third album, Such Hot Blood. Frontman Mikel Jollett told Billboard.com that the track was written following an "awful and horrific" year in which he lost four family members, including his grandmother. Jollett explained, "I was actually there, I was the first person who found her in the room. The song is kind of a lament of that, just how overwhelming these things can be."
Jollett added he rewrote the song 11 times before he felt it captured just what he wanted to express, saying, "I remember thinking, 'Don't write like you're an indie rock artist or an art-rock band, don't write like you're trying to write an Airborne song, don't try to be you -- just write what's in your heart."
- The new album is due out this spring and will follow up 2011's All At Once, which debuted on the Billboard album chart at Number 17.
- The Los Angeles-based act first broke through in 2008, when its debut disc spawned the modern rock hit, "Sometime Around Midnight."
- The group plays the second of two gigs in New York City on Thursday night (January 16th) before returning to Los Angeles for a show on the 23rd. A spring tour will begin at the end of March. The dates so far are (subject to change):
