Bruce Springsteen will be honored as the 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year on February 8th in Los Angeles. Among the legendary presenters and performers set to appear at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Hall will be Elton John, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples, Sting, Emmylou Harris, Eddie Vedder, Alabama Shakes, Kenny Chesney, Ben Harper, Faith Hill, Jim James, Juanes, John Legend, Natalie Maines, Tim McGraw, Tom Morello, Mumford & Sons, with The Daily Show's Jon Stewart serving as the evening's host.

The MusiCares Person of the Year honor celebrates both Springsteen's "exceptional artistic achievements as well as his philanthropic work." Proceeds from the 23rd annual Person of the Year tribute provides essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn "in times of financial, medical, and personal need."

  • Longtime friend and bandmate Steve Van Zandt told us that in all of his travels he's never encountered an artist or performer even close to Bruce Springsteen: "He's an exception to almost any rule. Y'know, anybody that follows the pattern of his sort of career choices is doomed (laughs) to failure -- I promise you, okay? It's not like. . . He is completely unique in what he can pull off -- and you get used to that."

  • Past MusiCares Person of the Year honorees include, Tony Bennett, Bono, Natalie Cole, Phil Collins, David Crosby, Neil Diamond, Gloria Estefan, Aretha Franklin, Don Henley, Billy Joel, Elton John, Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Sting, Barbra Streisand, James Taylor, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, and Neil Young.
