  • Blabbermouth reports GUNS N' ROSES launched its first-ever residency on October 31 when the band played the first of 12 shows at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The "Appetite For Democracy" run will last through Saturday, November 24, with the band playing a setlist exclusively created for these shows.  According to a posting on GUNS N' ROSES' official Twitter, last night's (Wednesday, November 21) performance at the Joint was filmed in 3D, presumably for future release.  The complete setlist for the concert can be found below (courtesy of  The shows feature the current lineup of the band, of which singer Axl Rose is the only original member.  GUNS N' ROSES drew criticism earlier in the month from Clark County commissioners after they were told about an ad for the group's Vegas concerts which depicts what appears to be a sexually assaulted woman beneath the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign.  The image, which is said to be a watered-down version of the banned cover for the band's classic 1987 debut, "Appetite For Destruction", was being used in mainstream advertising, including newspaper promotions and taxicab placards.  Read more at Loudwire

  • Blabbermouth reports RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello has revealed to that certain members of the band are "not ready" to start writing and recording a new studio album.  The influential group, which disbanded in 2000 but reunited in 2007 and has played sporadic live shows ever since, will issue a deluxe edition of its classic 1992 self-titled debut on November 27, complete with unreleased demos and tons of live material.  Asked about the potential for a new album from RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, Morello said: "No plans for anything. This RAGE boxset is the first official RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE release in 12 years. We're on a once-every-12-years pace to release something."  When pressed to elaborate on why this is the case, Morello responded: "When bands make albums, it's because everybody wants to, and that's not the case with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE at the moment. Everyone in the band gets along very well, we consider each other friends and comrades in arms, but people sometimes don't feel ready to do it. I don't have one minute of one day that's not filled with music, or politics, or family. If at some point RAGE were to get it together to work more, I would be open to that, but that's not on the table right now."  "Rage Against The Machine XX", as the new reissue is called, will come out in three versions: a regular single disc, a two-CD/one-DVD package, and a deluxe box set featuring the CDs, two DVDs, the album on vinyl picture disc, plus a 40-page booklet and a double-sided poster.  The first CD will feature three hard-to-find B-sides along with the original album, while the second CD will contain the rare, original RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 1991 demo tape that helped land the group their record deal with Sony.  The first DVD will contain RAGE's free concert in Finsbury Park on June 2010. Also included are music videos and other live concert performance clips. The second DVD will feature RAGE's first public performance ever at Cal State North Ridge in October 1991, plus various rare early concert clips.  Morello told Billboard about the release, "We're really psyched to be putting this out for the fans . . . I want to really give them a motherlode of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE history, past and present."  Read more at Loudwire and Classic Rock

  • Blabbermouth reports MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has slammed CNN founder Ted Turner for saying during a recent interview that a rise in military suicides in relation to combat deaths is a "good" development.  Speaking to CNN's Piers Morgan on October 19, Turner said, "I think it's good" that American soldiers are turning their guns on themselves, insisting that it shows humans aren't meant to be put on the battlefield to bring death to others.  "It's so clear that we're programmed and we're born to love and help each other, not to kill each other, to destroy each other," he said. "That's an aberration. That's left over from hundreds of years ago. It's time for to us start acting enlightened."  After a backlash of negative press, Turner issued a statement to say he's sorry for anyone offended by his comment.  "During my recent interview on CNN's 'Piers Morgan Tonight', I inadvertently used the word 'good' when asked for my thoughts on the increasing rate of suicide among U.S. military soldiers in the Middle East," Turner said. "It was certainly not my intent to imply that suicide is 'good.' Rather, I was implying that it is good that the public is more aware of these tragedies and is more averse to war and war-related fatalities.  "My message has always been one of peace, I believe that we're born programmed to love and help each other, not to kill or hurt each other. I strongly support our U.S. troops and would never intentionally say anything to harm the brave men and women serving our country. I deeply apologize for any misunderstanding caused by this comment."  During MEGADETH's November 16 concert at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mustaine addressed the Turner controversy before performing the song "Countdown To Extinction" (see video below), saying: "I don't know if you know this or not, but there was a guy that was on the news… I like to watch the news a lot, I'm sure you know that. I was watching the news and there was a guy that said… he thinks it's good that the troops are committing suicide. Troops like us, you and me.  "Like when I was 18, I put my name in for the Selective Service, like all of us, our brothers, our sisters. He thinks it's good that the troops are committing suicide.  "You wanna know who this guy is? His name is Ted Turner, the owner of CNN. [Crowd starts booing] You know what?! I think he sucks too. I think we should stop watching CNN, we should stop watching Headline News, we should stop watching TBS [Turner Broadcasting System].  "As long as our troops are Americans, and you're saying that you think it's good that they're dying, you're saying you think it's good that we're dying. And that ain't cool. [Crowd starts chanting, 'Fuck Ted!'] I don't know if you've seen Ted, but he would be lucky if somebody would fuck him. [laughs]  "I'm having a good time. Are you? This next song is about people trying to put us out of existence. This song is called 'Countdown To Extinction'."

  • Blabbermouth reports Fuse conducted an interview with EXTREME/RIHANNA guitarist Nuno Bettencourt during the pop singer's "777" tour — a jaunt through seven countries for seven concerts in seven days. You can now watch the chat below.  The unexpected combination of the Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Rihanna and Bettencourt has in fact become what Nuno says "a great opportunity to blend our talents to create a high-energy experience."  Nuno is best known for his work in the multiplatinum rock band EXTREME, where they were nominated for a Grammy for their Billboard chart-topping hit "More Than Words". Nuno has worked on many projects including, multiple solo albums, film scores and has also worked with notable artists such as Janet Jackson, Perry Farrell, Robert Palmer and many others.  Rihanna's choice to have Nuno in her band was a great surprise, and Nuno assured that her live sound is really complimentary to his "style." When he heard the direction Rihanna wants to go in a live setting Nuno said, "Wow, this rocks! It's heavy and funky, and it hit me that this is 'my' thing, this is 'my' style…"  Once Nuno and Rihanna blended their talents and began the first round of rehearsals, Nuno stated, "It did not disappoint. Even better than what I expected because she also has the most incredible band, and I get the privilege to add to their wall of sound. Come see and hear it for yourself!"  Asked what the biggest difference is between performing live with EXTREME and going on the road with Rihanna, Nuno said in an interview, "The fact that the audience is 90 percent women between the ages of 9 to 23. [laughs] The biggest difference has got to be being part of the show that it is. EXTREME is just a four-piece. The most creative we've gotten is to get a horn section. But this is like a spectacle with dancers and aerialists and it's amazing to be a part of."

  • Blabbermouth reports Michelle J. Mills of Pasadena Star-News recently conducted an interview with CINDERELLA frontman Tom Keifer. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.  On battling vocal cord paresis, also known as vocal cord paralysis, which is the inability for one or both of the vocal cords to move due to abnormal nerve input to the laryngeal or voice box muscles:  Keifer: "The onset of the problems was pretty sudden, almost overnight. It was towards the end of the tour [in support of CINDERELLA's third album, 'Heartbreak Station']. We only had a few weeks left when I noticed that my voice just started breaking and cracking, more in the middle register of my voice, and I couldn't control the notes."  On seeing a physican in Philadelphia who poked the insides of Keifer's throat; the right side yielded a gag response, while the left was unresponsive:  Keifer: "He did some other tests and he looked down my throat and then we had the big scary talk where he came in and said, 'The good news is you're not crazy, there is something wrong with your voice, but the bad news is it's a paresis, which is a fancy medical term for partially paralyzed."  On how his vocal paresis also has a good side:  Keifer: "One of the positive things that came out of this whole mess is that from the voice training I learned a lot of things and developed different areas of my voice. The middle part of my voice in particular, it's probably a little stronger than it used to be, although it's still volatile from day to day. But on a good day I can do things that maybe I couldn't do before this."  "I think if there's anything to be learned from it, there's never an ill wind that doesn't blow some good if you stick to something and you have enough belief and you work. I'm certainly not out of the woods, it's something that will always be with me and it's always going to be a struggle, but I've been able to regain enough to do what I love to do."  Read more from Pasadena Star-News.

  • Blabbermouth reports Kee Marcello (EUROPE), Joacim Cans (HAMMERFALL) and Thomas Vikström (CANDLEMASS, THERION) have been cast in the Swedish version of the hit Broadway musical "Rock Of Ages", which is set to invade Chinateatern in Stockholm this spring. The cast also features some of Sweden's top actors, comedians and singers, including Johan Rheborg, Peter Magnusson, Gladys del Pilar and Peter Johansson (who played the main character Galileio in "We Will Rock You" on West End 2003-2007).  A success on Broadway, West End and in Hollywood, the hottest rock musical in the world will have its Swedish premiere on February 21, 2013.  When director Anders Albien got the assignment to launch "Rock Of Ages" in Sweden, he chose to look for artists outside the common parameters of musical actors. Unlike the casts in both the Broadway and West End productions, he wanted real-life rock stars as well as feature film actors in the cast to give authenticity to the show.  "Rock Of Ages" is a rock/jukebox musical, built around classic rock hits from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of the decade. The musical features songs from STYX, JOURNEY, BON JOVI, EUROPE, PAT BENATAR, TWISTED SISTER and POISON, among other well-known rock bands.  The show is noted for being more lighthearted and comedic than other shows on Broadway. During the performance, the cast members frequently break the "fourth wall", directly addressing the audience and seemingly forgetting (or perhaps reminding the audience) that they are actors in a musical.  "Rock Of Ages" is produced by 2Entertain in cooperation with Vicky Nöjesproduktion.  Tickets go on sale on November 26.  The film adaptation of "Rock Of Ages" — with an all-star cast including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand — was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on October 9.  The soundtrack to the film adaptation of "Rock Of Ages", which features the cast — Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Brand and Julianne Hough — singing some of the greatest hits of the "hair-band" era, sold 18,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at opposition No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart. The original cast production of the stage show peaked at No. 118 in 2009.

  • Blabbermouth reports long-running Gothenburg, Sweden-based metallers DESTINY have announced the addition of vocalist Jonas Heidgert to the group's ranks. According to the band, Jonas "is a very talented musician and far from a newcomer to the metal scene. In 2000 he released his first of five albums with DRAGONLAND, where he both sang and played drums on the first two albums before he chose to concentrate on the vocals on the last three. He has also recorded vocals for an album with DIABOLICUS as well as touring with both DRAGONLAND and the cover band METAL MONARCHS."  Jonas has already begun to lay down vocals for DESTONY's upcoming anniversary album, "The Incompatibility Of Philosophical Terminology", for a spring release, as well as the next official full-length CD, "Global Warming", for which everything but the vocals has already recorded.  Fans will get their first taste of DESTINY with Jonas on vocals in December when a digital single from "The Incompatibility Of Philosophical Terminology" is released.  Way back in 1982, bassist Stefan Björnshög founded one of Sweden's first true heavy metal bands, DESTINY. Unlike most other Swedish acts that were active around the same period, DESTINY never broke up. In 2005, DESTINY was joined by guitarist Michael Åberg, who previously played with NOSTRADAMEUS.  Following a tour opening for former BLACK SABBATH vocalist Tony Martin in 2006, DESTINY has kept an unusually low profile, partly because the band was unable to find a suitable vocalist and also because of illness and various personal tragedies.

  • Blabbermouth reports Peter Dolving (THE HAUNTED), Lars Johansson (CANDLEMASS) and Danny Tunker (GOD DETHRONED, PROSTITUTE DISFIGUREMENT) have recorded guest appearances on the new album from Swedish death metallers THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX. Entitled "The Cadaverous Retaliation Agenda", the CD will only be made available digitally to those who participated in "The TPH Donation Experiment", which allowed people to donate money directly to the band in order to make it possible for them to record the album. The cover artwork for the effort was created by Marko Saarelainen and can be seen below. The CD is being mixed by acclaimed Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Swanö (OPETH, KATATONIA, DISSECTION).  Due to schedulding conflicts, drummer Tobias Gustafsson (TORTURE DIVISION, VOMITORY) did not take part in the recording sessions for the new THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX album. The drum tracks on the CD were laid down by Dirk Verbeuren (SOILWORK, SCARVE, DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT).  THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX is the Swedish band featuring Jörgen Sandström (vocals; VICIOUS ART, KRUX, ex-ENTOMBED, GRAVE), Lord K. Philipson (guitar; TORTURE DIVISION, ex-GOD AMONG INSECTS, HOUSE OF USHER, LEUKEMIA), Anders Bertilsson (guitar; COLDWORKER) and Portuguese vocalist Ms. Roque (a.k.a. Ruby Roque of WITCHBREED)
