  • Blabbermouth reports GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose sang the song "November Rain" at the second show of the band's las Vegas residency last night (Friday, November 2) while sitting at a levitating piano. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.  GUNS N' ROSES launched its first-ever residency on Wednesday, October 31 when the band played the first of 12 shows at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The "Appetite For Democracy" run will last through Saturday, November 24, with the band playing a setlist exclusively created for these shows.  The shows feature the current lineup of the band, of which Rose is the only original member.  GUNS N' ROSES drew criticism this past week from Clark County commissioners after they were told about an ad for the group's Vegas concerts which depicts what appears to be a sexually assaulted woman beneath the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign.  The image, which is said to be a watered-down version of the banned cover for the band's classic 1987 debut, "Appetite For Destruction", is being used in mainstream advertising, including newspaper promotions and taxicab placards.  Read a review at Classic Rock

  • Blabbermouth reports original KISS drummer Peter Criss' memoir, "Makeup To Breakup: My Life In And Out Of Kiss", landed at position No. 7 on the New York Times "Hardcover Nonfiction" best-sellers list. The book arrived on October 23 via the Simon & Schuster imprint Scribner.  An excerpt from "Makeup To Breakup: My Life In And Out Of Kiss", can be found at   Criss wrote the 320-page hardcover book with the help of Larry "Ratso" Sloman.   In a recent interview with "The Opie & Anthony Show", Criss revealed that a power struggle, with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley on one side, and Peter and Ace Frehley on the other, led to his departure from KISS. "I could start feeling [Stanley and Simmons] wanting the power," he said. "The more we were going up the ladder of future and fame, the more it was kind of swaying to Mr. Simmons and Stanley. Ace and I were kind of not getting our musical [ideas] in. It's funny — I wrote the biggest hit the band [ever had] [the 1976 ballad 'Beth'], and meanwhile, I was kind of always getting put down for this stuff. So it was always a battle."  According to Criss, he and Frehley were extremely close, which is why it was especially hurtful for the drummer to learn that Frehley was making more money when the farewell tour ended in 2000. "[It] broke my heart when [Ace] broke my heart," he said. "In the book, I tell the story, but towards the reunion, towards the end, I was devastated, man. I couldn't believe what went on. And it was again about the old M-O-N-E-Y. Money, money, money. Power, power, power. It never was enough for those guys."  As previously reported, Criss will guest on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" with host Bob Coburn on Wednesday, December 19 at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to speak with Criss by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625). The show will be streamed on the "Rockline" web site for two weeks beginning the afternoon after the live broadcast.  For more information, visit

  • Blabbermouth reports legendary rocker Alice Cooper recently launched a new audio blog, "Me, Alice", at the web site of his radio show, "Nights With Alice Cooper". Check out the second installment using the SoundCloud player below.  In a recent interview with the U.K.'s Independent, Cooper insisted that he and his band are "doing better tours now than we ever did." He added, "When I was 30, I was a mess. I was drinking a bottle of whisky a day. I did shows that weren't anywhere near as good as the shows I do now."  Cooper, who calls himself a born-again Christian, also said that he believed the Bible was the literal word of God. "Yes, true each word," he said. "[God] has a plan for everybody. I look at my life and I think, 'How is it possible that I didn't die?'"  The rocker also spoke about his live performance, saying, "I treat Alice in the third person, because I can't take him anywhere. He belongs on stage. But there was a gray area for quite a long time when I didn't know where I began and where Alice ended."  He continued, "If you take the image away. I'm still in a bar band, because I've never grown out of it. I'll be the last guy who ever looks at the band and says, 'Turn it down'. But I love the character. I always say Alice Cooper's my favorite rock star. [My fans] don't want him to be human. They want him to be this otherworldly character."

  • Blabbermouth reports former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Kenneth "K.K. Downing is among the musicians who appear on "Who Are You: An All Star Tribute To The Who", which was released on October 2 via Cleopatra Records.  As THE WHO approaches a nearly 50-year career, artists in genres from classic to progressive rock, and from punk to country, collaborate on a stunning celebration of the band's remarkable catalogue.   In a posting on his official web site, Downing writes about his involvement with the album, "I received a call from Cleopatra Records asking if I would consider playing on a WHO tribute album. My immediate reaction was one of apprehension; however, when I was informed of the artists that were going to be on the compilation, any concerns that I had were completely erased. After all, a lot of these artists were stars before I had ever played a gig. With the likes of Ginger Baker, Leslie West, Dave Davies, Todd Rundgren and Randy Bachman, just for starters, I knew that there was no way I was going to turn this one down.   "After saying yes, I was allocated the track 'Eminence Front' and I knew straight away that this would be somewhat different for me — which is always good as it would be a new challenge and not something that I could just go ahead and wail away doing what I normally like to do.  "After hearing the track, it was obvious that I had a treasure in my hands. A legendary song from one of the all-time great legendary bands in the world and now I had the great privilege to have a connection with it. You can just imagine how nervous but excited that made me feel. The production was tight and precise and I knew it had great performers on it, although at that time I did not know who I was playing alongside with. Later I found out that the excellent vocals were by John Wetton and keyboards by Derek Sherinian.  "My goal was to focus strongly on the vocal performance; firstly to try and make the best introduction for it that I could and then to interact with it so as to create a working partnership with it throughout the song — creating a kind of duet. This, in turn, would help to drive the song. At the same time, I was always careful not to be overexuberant and interfere with what THE WHO originally created. I can only say that I am extremely happy with the result and also very happy to have had the opportunity to have been a small part of this giant 'Who Are You' album."  THE WHO has sold over 100 million records, had 27 Top 40 hits, 17 Top 10 albums, and have been certified gold (18 times), platinum (12 times) and multi-platinum (5 times). They were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, and have been described as one of the greatest rock bands in history by Rolling Stone, the Grammy Foundation, VH1, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Artists from CHEAP TRICK and RUSH to PEARL JAM have counted THE WHO as a primary influence. With such weight put on this legendary band’s musical output, the contributors to "Who Are You" have brought every ounce of creativity, attitude, and reverence to the collection.

  • Blabbermouth reports STRYPER's Oz Fox and guitarist Sin Quirin, whose projects include MINISTRY, REVCO and LORDS OF ACID, have joined established guitarist/songwriter Damon Marks on his first-ever USO tour, which is taking place November 2-7 in Germany. During the five-day morale-boosting trip, they are spending time at multiple military schools — where they are attending school assemblies and band camps and talking with youngsters about the arts.  Kicking off the tour on a high note, the Traveling Guitar Foundation (TGF) founder generously donated 12 custom ESP electric acoustic and bass guitars, along with accompanying study guides, to four Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Germany. He also pledged to give another XXX to the Fort Campbell Warrior and Transition Base to aid with music education and XXX to the USO's brand new, state-of-the art USO Warrior and Family Care Center's Music Room at Fort Belvoir, which opens in late 2012, to help our wounded, ill and injured continue to heal.  Marks and the TGF are avid supporters of our military community and the USO. A veteran performer, Marks has worked as a guitarist on Alicia Keys' Freedom Tour and played at numerous world-renowned arenas, including Madison Square Garden. In 2010, he founded the TGF — a nonprofit organization that provides equipment and support for schools struggling to finance music education programs.  Said Marks: "When I learned about the USO and all the great work they do not only for active duty troops on the frontlines but also our wounded warriors and military families, I knew I had to do something to show troops how much they are appreciated and valued. I chose to do that by volunteering my time and granting them the wish of music. It is an privilege for me and the Traveling Guitar Foundation to be a part of such a terrific experience."

  • Blabbermouth reports New Jersey-based "mathcore" act THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN will enter the studio on November 5 with producer producer Steve Evetts (EVERY TIME I DIE, POISON THE WELL) to begin recording its new album for a tentative April 2013 release.  THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN guitarist Ben Weinman previously stated about the band’s forthcoming CD, "This new material is very punk-, very hardcore-influenced. Maybe it's all the amazing bands reuniting from my youth that is inspiring this. Billy [Rymer, drums] and I have just been listening to old hardcore records blasting through my house and then going down to the dungeon and just bashing. Greg [Puciato, vocals] also seems to be in a very dark place lyrically. I think it's going to be pretty creepy. If these songs don't put some holes in the wall, I don't know what will."  The band recently announced the amicable departure of rhythm guitarist Jeff Tuttle.  THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's latest album, "Option Paralysis", was re-released last year in a "Paralyzing Edition" exclusively as a digital download. This first-anniversary reissue included four bonus tracks, plus a video in the iTunes version.

  • Blabbermouth reports "Now And Forever", the third album from Swedish female-fronted heavy rockers SISTER SIN, has entered the official chart in the band's home country at position No. 44. Released on October 23 via Victory Records, the CD was recorded at Standstraight Studios in Stockholm with producer Chris Snyder and was mixed by Cameron Webb (MOTÖRHEAD, SOCIAL DISTORTION, DANZIG).

    "Now And Forever" track listing:

    01. MMXII
    02. End Of The Line
    03. Fight Song
    04. In It For Life
    05. Hearts Of Cold
    06. The Chosen Few
    07. Hang 'Em High
    08. I'm Not You
    09. Running Low
    10. Shades Of Black
    11. Morning After

The "End Of The Line" video can be seen below.  In a recent interview with Loudwire, SISTER SIN frontwoman Liv Jagrell stated about the track, "It's a really good first single, I think, because the whole album is in that style. It shows a different side of SISTER SIN because we actually have some keyboards in this song and on some of the other songs, too, and we worked both on the dynamics and on the melodies in a [different] way than the previous album."  She added, "On this album and on that song, we thought a little bit out of the box and experimented and tried to go out of what our comfort zone is. I think it turned out really good. I'm happy with the album and that song."  Regarding the song's the lyrics, Jagrell said, "It's about the kinds of scams, political and religious scams and people everywhere trying to tell us the world is going to end but we really just want to try to live today and not to live for tomorrow or for things that might happen. It's satirical a little bit towards all of those people trying to say what we should do and not do."  Asked what the album title "Now And Forever" means to her, Liv said, "The title 'Now And Forever' is kind of a statement for us as a band. As a band and as individuals, we have been through quite a lot of things, a lot of troubles and things that might break up bands but we're so dedicated to this band. So that's the title — we are here now and hopefully forever. We won't give up even if something goes wrong — it's tough to be in the music business today."  "End Of The Line" was released on August 7 via all digital platforms worldwide.  For more information, visit

  • Blabbermouth reports according to EUobserver, the European Commission has said that Poland's prosecution of the extreme metal band BEHEMOTH and the group's leader, Adam "Nergal" Darski, for "blasphemy" is against European values.  In a statement released on Wednesday (October 31), it said that "national blasphemy laws are a matter for the domestic legal order of the member states."  It cited the European Convention Of Human Rights, a Poland-signatory treaty attached to the Strasbourg-based rights watchdog, the Council of Europe, on freedom of expression.  "This right protects not only information or ideas that are favorably received or regarded as inoffensive or as a matter of indifference, but also those that offend, shock or disturb," the commission said.  In a new posting on the BEHEMOTH Facebook page, Darski provided a link to the EUobserver article and added, "As some of you know, I've been battling this bullshit for a few years now. Things are getting more serious and... dangerous.  "Anyways, looks like freethinking wins over obscurity in the end. If not in Poland, at least in Europe... Read and share.
"I wanted to thank you for all the words of support and encouragement. This means everything to me.  "Onward to victory! Hail freedom!"  According to Reuters, Poland's Supreme Court ruled on October 29 that Darski committed a crime when when he called the Catholic Church "the most murderous cult on the planet" during BEHEMOTH's September 2007 performance in Gdynia and tore up a copy of the Bible, calling it "a book of lies."  A lower court will now decide if Darski is guilty of the crime, which carries a maximum sentence of two years in jail.  "[The decision] is negative and restricts the freedom of speech. The court decided that this is allowed in a democratic system," Jacek Potulski, a lawyer for Darski, told Reuters.  He added, "We are still arguing that we were dealing with art, which allows more critical and radical statements."  Ryszard Nowak, chairman of the privately run Nationwide Defence Committee Against Sects, told Polish television about today's court ruling, "The Supreme Court said clearly that there are limits for artists which cannot be crossed."  Back in August 2011, a Polish judge ruled that Darski's ripping up of a Bible during a show was a form of artistic expression consistent with the style of his band.  Judge Krzysztof Wieckowski said he considered Darski's actions "a form of art." He added that the court had no intention of limiting freedom of expression or the right to criticize religion.  The court said audience members who testified said their religious feelings had not been hurt despite the fact they were Christians.  After the 2007 incident, Nowak sued BEHEMOTH for promoting Satanism. Although a court expert witness on religious matters said that the act of destroying the Holy Bible could offend somebody's religious feelings, the case was discontinued because no one except Nowak accused BEHEMOTH of insulting their religious beliefs. (Under Polish law, there must be at least two formal complaints before a charge is laid. The previous complaint was made in 2008, and recently an unspecified number of other complaints had been filed.)  In a 2009 interview with Decibel magazine, BEHEMOTH bassist Tomasz "Orion" Wróblewski explained that the Bible-tearing incident was by no means a spontaneous outburst. "We'd been doing that for two years on tour before it happened in Poland," he said. "So, we had discussed it many times before. A BEHEMOTH show is a BEHEMOTH show, and BEHEMOTH fans are coming to a BEHEMOTH show. BEHEMOTH fans know what BEHEMOTHis about, know what the lyrics are about, and know at least a little of the philosophy behind the band. So, it's kind of surprising that there are people coming to the shows and feeling offended with what we do onstage. If such a person comes to a show, he comes with the purpose of being offended, I guess, and it shouldn't be like that. We're not offending any particular person. We're just offending the religion that we've been raised in."  Read more at Loudwire.  Polish-language TV report on the October 29 Supreme Court ruling:

  • Blabbermouth reports former THE HAUNTED frontman Peter Dolving has signed a deal with Deadlight Entertainment for the French release of his solo album entitled "Thieves And Liars".  According to a press release, "Thieves & Liars" "is far from the idea of metal and hardcore. Instead, [the CD] spring from layers of guitars, classic rock, eclectic melodies and even goth. THE CURE, NEW ORDER, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, MASSIVE ATTACK and Mark Lanegan are names that spring to mind in describing the record that was recorded in 2011/2012, mixed by BURST and SÓLSTAFIR producer Fredrik Reinedahl and mastered by legendary producer/engineer Tue Madsen (SICK OF IT ALL, HATESPHERE)."  Regarding how the effort came together, Dolving said, "Beginning in July 2011, I had come to a place in my life and art where for some reason I knew, this is it. No more adapting to groups, superficial ideas of genres, or styles. I started recording, with no censoring, complete flow of conciousness. Free creation. Finally. Without restraints. And I made a couple of songs every weeks, it just kept pouring out. I realized this was a truly inspired record falling into play.  "As the songs kept coming, I asked Per Möller Jensen, who I'd been playing with in THE HAUNTED for 10 years if he would like to play on the record, and he was completely open for diving into it. He explained he wanted time to really put his heart into and certainly he did. Mixing an amazing classic rock feel and a energetic inspiring jazz influence his drums blew my mind as I heard what he had come up with for the songs.  "I spoke to [producer] Tue Madsen, who I had befriended during hours of work with THE HAUNTED, we share a deep love of music and we decided that he would master. Fredrik Reinedahl who got involved with HOUSE OF DOLVING back when we started recording in 2011 has become a dear friend along the process. We met each other for the first time back in summer of '95 and he kept playing stuff to me that I really love that he had or was mixing. BURST, PASSENGERS, ABANDON and later SÓLSTAFIR. The man is a bona fide sound wizard and really one of the smartest, loving people I know.  "And a year after a couple of hundred alone long nights at end, it's all in place. This is 'Thieves And Liars'.   "I really hope you will enjoy it as much we have making it."

Previously a vocalist for MARY BEATS JANE, Dolving joined THE HAUNTED in 1997 and sang in their debut self-titled album. In 1998, he left the group to concentrate on a band called ZEN-MONKEY but returned in 2003 following the departure of Marco Aro (the vocalist which took over Dolving's spot after Peter's 1998 exit). He has since appeared on the studio albums "Revolver" (2004), "The Dead Eye" (2006), "Versus" (2008) and "Unseen"(2011).
