The Black Crowes have announced the first leg of their Lay Down With Number 13 world tour. Following a five-date UK run in March., the band -- led by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson -- will launch their 21-date North American trek, kicking things off over two nights, April 2nd and 3rd at Port Chester, New York's Capitol Theatre. The dates wind up on May 4th in New Orleans at the Mahalia Jackson Theater For The Performing Arts. Additional dates are expected to be announced soon.
On March 19th, the Crowes will release a vinyl version of their new live set, Wiser For The Time. The four vinyl albums contain 26 songs -- 15 acoustic and 11 electric -- from the band's five-night, sold-out 2010 New York City performances. The tracks will also be available as a double album digital download.
- Guitarist Rich Robinson shed some light on how the band has been dubbed over the years, "the most 'rock n' roll' rock n' roll band in the world." The tag originally came from a cover story in Britain's Melody Maker, which the Crowes always thought was a goof: "That was a joke. This guy wrote this scathing review of us, and basically said, 'These guys are the bunch of bitchiest,' y'know, 'most pain-in-the-ass, drug-induced,' he just went on, all and all. And then at the end, he, they said, 'Let's face it -- this is the most 'rock n' roll' rock n' roll band in the world.' So we just sort of stole it, and thought it was funny."
