GUNS N' ROSES drew criticism earlier in the month from Clark County commissioners after they were told about an ad for the group's Vegas concerts which depicts what appears to be a sexually assaulted woman beneath the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign.
The image, which is said to be a watered-down version of the banned cover for the band's classic 1987 debut, "Appetite For Destruction", was being used in mainstream advertising, including newspaper promotions and taxicab placards.

  • Blabbermouth reports Mike Babins of Galaxie radio recently conducted an interview with QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist Geoff Tate. You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud player below.  Tate's second solo album, "Kings & Thieves", sold 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD arrived in stores on November 6 via InsideOut Music.  In a recent interview with, Tate stated about his vision for "Kings & Thieves", "Typically, when I make a record, I have an idea of what I want to try to accomplish. I go about making that happen by making lists. I'm a list maker. I jot down all of these ideas I've got and I form those ideas into an outline. Then, I start using it as a punch list to take care of all these details I'd like to do. I knew I wanted to make a really solid rock record. I didn't want to stray too far into other musical endeavors. I wanted to keep it more rock-oriented with traditional rock instruments. I also knew that I wanted it to be more of a live record where all of the musicians get in a room and actually play together. A lot of it was recorded and written at the same time. That was very fun, and I've never done that before. It has an effect that makes the music seem more immediate and raw rather than being a polished, rehearsed-into-the-ground record, which I've done throughout most of my career. Making this record was a different process for me, and I made it very quickly. It flowed from the moment I started until the time I was done with it. It only took about six months to make. By comparison, QUEENSRŸCHE records have taken years to make."  Asked if there is any connection to his first solo record, Tate said, "Well, it has been a long time. It's been a long time coming too. They're two really different records to me. On that first solo record, I really wanted to stretch outside of the QUEENSRŸCHE box and do everything I could never do. I wanted to explore my influences in my writing. That first album has R&B influences, which I'm very into. It's got classical and electronica influences, but it doesn't have a lot of rock. "Kings & Thieves" is really a rock record. I focused on that aspect."

  • Blabbermouth reports critically acclaimed producer, songwriter and artist James Michael of SIXX: A.M. steps up for the fans with his new solo release, "Learn To Hate You". A one-minute preview is available in the YouTube clip below.  "My story isn't typical," Michael told Noisecreep during a May 2011 interview. "I played in a band called the RIVERDOGS in the early '90s and did some touring with them in Europe. I then signed a record deal for my first solo album in the late '90s. I ended up putting out a solo album called 'Inhale' in 2000, but I quickly realized that I was more cut out to be in the studio, writing with and for other artists."  He added, "You see, I originally had this fantasy that I would put out a solo album that would sell millions of copies, and then become this huge rock star. But while I was waiting for my record to come out, I started working with people like Sammy Hagar and MÖTLEY CRÜE. Once my solo album did come out, it didn't perform well commercially. But something interesting happened instead. Even though my solo record didn't sell, all of these other records that I had written for started doing really well, and the checks started rolling in." Michael has since worked as a record producer, songwriter and/or engineer/mixer with many other successful recording artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morissette, Meat Loaf, SCORPIONS, Hilary Duff, THE RASMUS, PAPA ROACH, TRAPT and HALESTORM.  "It was a great time, since I realized that the songwriting side was where I should be focusing my efforts," he said. "I get to stay in one place and work with different other artists every single day, and they can go out on tour playing the same 10 songs while I get to do new stuff. I then spent the next seven or eight years building on my career as a producer and songwriter."

  • Blabbermouth reports SEVENDUST has set "Black Out The Sun" as the title of its ninth album, tentatively due in April 2013. The CD was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti.  "The craziest thing about this record is finishing it in about a month," guitarist John Connolly tells Revolver magazine. "We haven't done that since our debut album [1997's self-titled effort]. This is one of the fastest records we've ever made, but also one of the strongest — working off instinct mostly."  According to Connolly, SEVENDUST's forthcoming CD finds the band exploring "a darker vibe," but "there's still plenty of melody," he adds. "The record fits right in with 'Animosity' [2002], 'Alpha' [2007], and our self-titled album. Lots of heavy stuff and some more mellow, moody songs as well It's a nice balance of what makes for the SEVENDUST sound."  Songtitles set to appear on the 12-track CD, which was produced by the bandmembers themselves, include "Mountain" and "Murder Bar". The latter was reportedly inspired by a Butler, New Jersey bar across from the hotel where SEVENDUST was staying while recording the new CD. Rumor had it the place was popular with many of New Jersey's murderers.  "It's a basic SEVENDUST record," guitarist Clint Lowery recently told "Source Of The Sound With Wendy Campbell". "There's nothing, like, too completely different than anything we've done before. It's got a darker vibe to it. We've got a good amount of the programming element in there. It's a lot of what we do — it's heavy and it's got its melodic element in it. So if you're a SEVENDUST fan, it's more along the lines of the second and third records we did — it's kind of like that. It's got a couple of throwback vibes to it. 'Animosity' and 'Home' [1999], if I can put those two records together, it would [sound similar to the new CD]."  SEVENDUST's last CD, "Cold Day Memory", sold around 27,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart.  The band's previous effort, "Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow", opened with 25,000 units back in April 2008 to land at position No. 19.  "Cold Day Memory" was released on April 20, 2010 on the band's own 7Bros. Records, through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group.

  • Blabbermouth reports Massachusetts metallers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE are currently mixing their new album with veteran British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, ACCEPT, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) for an early 2013 release via Roadrunner Records. The recording sessions for the CD were overseen by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, an acclaimed producer in his own right who has previously worked with ALL THAT REMAINS, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and AS I LAY DYING, among others.  KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's forthcoming album will mark the return of the band's original vocalist, Jesse Leach, who rejoined the group earlier this year following the departure of Howard Jones after nine years and three successful albums. Having Leach — who had appeared on the band's first two albums and more recently played with Dutkiewicz in a new project, TIMES OF GRACE — back in the fold has "felt 100 percent natural," Adam tells Guitar World magazine. "Jesse sounds a little different from Howard — he's obviously not a big black man," he says with a laugh. "But he's bringing his own thing to it."  KILLSWITCH ENGAGE fans have already had the opportunity to hear one of the cuts that will appear on the upcoming CD: a rough mix of the song "No End In Sight" was recently leaked online, and as a result the band has started playing it live. "It's actually the one tune that's pretty different from the other stuff," Dutkiewicz tells Guitar World. "Overall the rest of the album is a little faster, a little meaner, a little growlier — thrashy but with lots of clean parts. We're going a little more extreme this time."  In an interview with the "Brock And The Fatguy" radio show, Leach stated about KILLSWITCH ENGAGEd's new material, "People are gonna be really surprised; [we're] setting the bar up high once again. It's really fast and it's really heavy. It's not what people are going to anticipate, I'm sure. I literally am getting chills right now talking about it. It's gonna blow the doors off people, man. It's gonna be great."  Leach sang on the band's first self-titled album, which came out in 2000, and on their landmark release, 2002's genre-defining "Alive Or Just Breathing"KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's April 22 performance at at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival marked the band's first concert with Leach in more than nine years.  KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Alive Or Just Breathing" by performing the entire album during their U.S. headlining tour in November/December. Support on the trek will come from SHADOWS FALL and ACARO.  Read more at Loudwire

Other musicians slated to perform "a variety of cover songs" with ARMORED SAINT include AMON AMARTH's Johan Hegg, Ray Alder of FATES WARNING/REDEMPTION and Doug Pinnick of KING'S X. We are looking forward to saying thank you to Brian and everyone at Metal Blade in the best way possible, loud and fast!"

  • Blabbermouth reports German power metallers HELLOWEEN will release their new album, "Straight Out Of Hell", in Europe on January 18 and in North America on January 22, 2013. The cover artwork — which was once again created by Martin Häusler, who previously worked with the band on the "7 Sinners" and "Gambling With The Devil" CDs — was revealed in four parts over a four-day period starting this past Wednesday (November 14). Check out the fourth and final part below. The band states, "The cover literally is the bomb!"  "Straight Out Of Hell" is described in a press release as "a work full of speed and toughness, with optimism and great joy of playing, featuring complex arrangements, strong hooks and plenty of catchy melodies. Or, to let the facts speak for themself: 13 mostly fast-paced songs that turn out to be impressively multi-layered and will completely delight all HELLOWEEN fans, due to the different songwriters Andi Deris, founding members Michael Weikath and Markus Grosskopf, and guitarist Sascha Gerstner."  Says Weikath: "'Straight Out Of Hell' is the consequent development of the two albums before. '7 Sinners' was recorded more or less in the wake of 'Gambling With The Devil', while the new songs are a continuation of the '7 Sinners' directives, only a little less doom bound and noticeably more positive. These songs will kick even the laziest listener's ass."  HELLOWEEN recently completed work on the video for the CD's first single, the six-minute opus "Nabataea".
"Straight Out Of Hell" track listing:
    01. Nabataea
    02. World Of War 03. Live Now! 04. Far From The Stars 05. Burning Sun 06. Waiting For The Thunder
    07. Hold Me In Your Arms 08. Wanna Be God 09. Straight Out Of Hell 10. Asshole 11. Years 12. Make Fire Catch The Fly 13. Church Breaks Down
    Limited-edition bonus tracks:
    14. Another Shot Of Life
    15. Burning Sun (Hammond version; dedicated to Jon Lord)
On the live front, meanwhile, HELLOWEEN (fresh from appearing at prestigious Japanese festival Loud Park) will be returning to the road in March 2013 — the first part of a world tour set to kick off in mainland Europe, with GAMMA RAY as special guests. The follow-up to the "Hellish Rock" tour of 2007/2008, this extended outing ("Hellish Rock Part II") will bring the band to the U.K. on April 16 for a one-off date at the London Forum.

  • Blabbermouth reports a series of clips from last night's (Friday, November 16) SABATON concert at Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden can be seen below. The entire show was professionally filmed and recorded for the band's upcoming DVD and Blu-ray, tentatively due in 2013. The band states, "A huge thanks to the fantastic crowd! This was an amazing night that we never will forget!"  SABATON has just finished headlining the "Swedish Empire Tour" with support from ELUVEITIE and WISDOM.   SABATON's new album, "Carolus Rex", was certified gold in the group's home country for sales in excess of 20,000 copies. (Note: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry [IFPI] in Sweden has revised the sales requirements for albums to reach gold status in the country twice in the last seven years — from the pre-2002 level of 40,000 to the current 20,000.)  "Carolus Rex" was released on May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records. The lyrics for the CD, which was made available in both English and Swedish, deal with the Swedish Empire (referring to the Kingdom of Sweden between 1561 and 1721).  SABATON earlier in the year parted ways with guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén, drummer Daniel Mulback and keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr.
