FOO FIGHTERS RECAP 'GREATEST HITS' WITH TUESDAY RELEASE

11/3/2009

Foo Fighters issue their first best-of collection, simply titled Greatest Hits, on Tuesday (November 3rd). The 16-track set comes in both a standard edition and a deluxe version, with the latter containing a DVD and a 28-page book featuring never-before-seen photos from throughout the band's history. Also included are two new songs, "Word Forward" and "Wheels," both newly recorded for this release with producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig.

Foos frontman Dave Grohl last worked with Vig on Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind, when Grohl was playing drums for that band. Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins joked that guitarist Chris Shiflett and bassist Nate Mendel were not intimidated by having so many drummers around: "I was the one who's in the hot seat because I've got two drummers sitting there staring down the barrel of the recording gun at me. So I think they actually felt like, 'Ha ha, at least I'm glad, you know, it's not three bass players producing this, or three guitar players.' I don't know if that really came into their minds, but there were a lot of frickin' drummers in the room, let me tell you."

The DVD includes a series of the band's classic music videos as well as live performances filmed at London's Wembley Stadium and Hyde Park, as well as on the group's acoustic Skin & Bones tour. The set is also available on collector's 180-gram vinyl.

Foo Fighters are expected to begin work on a new album sometime in the near future.

Frontman Dave Grohl is also playing drums in Them Crooked Vultures, his new band with John Paul Jones and Josh Homme. The trio will issue their debut album on November 17th.
