Jaxon's Local Shots Presents: Brett Fest! with Ike
Posted 8/7/2013 6:33:00 PM

Instead of an Artist of the Month for August, we've got an event of the month: Brett Fest! This all-ages benefit concert is on Friday August 16th at World Cafe Live in Philly and all proceeds go to the family of Brett Talley to assist with his medical expenses. Brett was recently diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia, and the music scene that he has loved and contributed to for years [through his work with Ike, Outset and other bands] has decided to give back and help him out with this show.

The lineup includes reunion sets by Ike and Pawnshop Roses, John & Brittany, Matt Duke, The Better Half, and a whole bunch more. Get the full lineup and get tickets in advance on the Facebook event page. Every Wednesday this month we're spinning a song from a different band on the lineup - today we played "Everything You Love" from Ike. See you at WCL next Friday!

It's Monday. You're bummed about it. How about some music to wake you up? We're here for ya: this Local Shots Podcast features Philly alt-rockers Love A Lunatic. Stream today's pick, "Breathe", and keep up with the band over at ReverbNation.

Here's 3 reasons we like Ruby The Hatchet: swirling riffs, haunting vocals, psychedelic jams. What more could you want? Hear the track "Paralyzed" on today's Local Shots Podcast- it's off their new Eliminator EP which is available on a variety of mediums, including vinyl and cassette. See them at North Star Bar on Friday May 9th (info here) and hear more at RubyTheHatchet.com.

Mo Lowda & The Humble is one of the coolest band names we've seen to date, which is why they are April's Local Shots Artist of the Month! ...Kidding- though the name is groovy, the music is a way better reason to check these guys out. The Temple U. trio gained a lot of traction after the release of their first full-length record Curse The Weather, building upon their established reputation as one of the best alt-rock bands in the city. Today we played the track "The Way Home"; stream it now, and get show dates plus a whole lot more on the Artist of the Month page.

Wanna be a Local Shot?

In a band? Want to be involved with Jaxon's Local Shots?

For the Local Shots Artist of the Month feature, the Local Shots Podcast or for on-air consideration, we would love it if you'd send a CD to the station. Just circle one or two tracks that you like best or think would be best suited for WMMR. Put it on a CD and send it over. We try to listen to the CD's each day as they arrive, so it's easier for us to have a physical copy. Our address is below. Please include your website and any other information you would like us know know about your band. Details on upcoming shows are especially helpful.

Thanks very much! Looking forward to hearing it!
