Bong Hits for Jesus is an all-out party of rock, punk, funk, reggae, hip-hop, and more blended together into an “undeniably original” and “refreshingly entertaining" rock circus. The band is named after the Supreme Court Free Speech case, and the band stands for freedom of speech, self-expression, and most importantly, having fun!
Bong Hits for Jesus has featured a number of members on drums, including special guests Michael McDermott of The Bouncing Souls and Chuck Treece, former touring member of Urge Overkill, Bad Brains and studio musician for Billy Joel, Pearl Jam, Bad Brains, Lauren Hill, et al. BHFJ’s first album, “The Monkeybird LP,” debuted in 2010. Produced by Grammy-nominated engineer, David Ivory, the single “High Up” was featured in the film “Living Will” starring the late Ryan Dunn of Jackass fame.
In August 2012, Bong Hits kicked off the “Hemp Heals Music Festival featuring Sublime with Rome, Cypress Hill, Pepper, and Bong Hits for Jesus” at the Festival Pier in Philadelphia. In January 2013, the band completed a successful sophomore tour of Southern California.
Currently, the band is promoting their new EP “Low Rent Hustlers” and will be opening for 2 Live Crew in May 2013 at the Trocadero in Philadelphia. They will also be performing at several music festivals in 2013 including the Jam @ the Dam, the Irie Vibes Music Festival, Musikfest, and the Hemp Heals Music Festival.
