Remember all of the hubbub yesterday about Eddie Vedder’s anti-war rant at a recent show in England?
Remember how I also mentioned that this definitely wouldn’t be the last time Vedder speaks out against war? Well, I was right.
Vedder took to Pearl Jam’s official website to respond to those who interpreted the candid speech about the current situation between Israel and Palestine as being anti-Israel. Vedder opens the lengthy post by quoting John Lennon’s “Imagine” and to reiterate that he wasn’t choosing sides and how, “War hurts. It hurts no matter which sides the bombs are falling on.”
Perhaps the biggest quote to take away from the post is this one:
“Call me naïve. I’d rather be naïve, heartfelt and hopeful than resigned to say nothing for fear of misinterpretation and retribution.”
Regardless of how you feel about everyone and everything involved in this conflict, do you think Vedder presents a valid point or do you think musicians should keep their political leanings to themselves?
