Linkin Park’s “The Hunting Party” Out Now

CHIBA, JAPAN - JUNE 23: Linkin Park performs onstage during the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2012 at Makuhari Messe on June 23, 2012 in Chiba, Japan.
The Linkin Park nation celebrates today (June 17) as the group releases its sixth studio album, "The Hunting Party."

The 12-song set features a return to the guitar-driven heavy rock of early albums such as "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora," a step away from the more electronic orientation of 2012's "Living Things" and 2010's "A Thousand Suns."

It's also Linkin Park's first album without producer Rick Rubin since "Meteora" in 2003, but the group's Mike Shinoda, who co-produced "The Hunting Party" with guitarist Brad Delson, tells us the band was more than ready to keep things in-house this time:

"Whenever we go into the studio, I'm kind of at the wheel and I stake it as my responsibility to make sure that we've got, collectively, a very clear vision of where we want to go and that the inspiration and motivation levels are high. And I'd say we definitely have that right now."

"The Hunting Party" features guest appearances by Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave's Tom Morello ("Drawbar"), System of a Down's Daron Malakian ("Rebellion"), Helmet's Page Hamilton ("All For Nothing") and rapper Rakim ("Guilty All the Same").

Linkin Park celebrates the album's release with a concert Wednesday (June 18) in Burbank, Calif., and will play the MTV Fan Fest and Fandom Awards during this year's Comic Con on July 24 in San Diego before starting its Carnivores Tour with 30 Seconds to Mars on August 8 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
