In “You can’t make this stuff up” news: A statue depicting Glenn Danzig riding on a dragon could soon be welcoming tourists in Austin, Texas
According to KeyeTv.com, this idea came up in a recent Austin Music Commission meeting and was listed as a potential “future goal.”
The idea is credited to James Moody, the owner of a popular live music venue called the Mohawk in Austin. “If they’re willing to do it in gold, I’ll submit it as a serious idea,” Moody said in an interview with keyetv.com.
Community leaders could strongly oppose this idea, not only for its absurdity, but due to Danzig’s last visit to Austin in 2011, where he encouraged a riot during a concert on the opening night of Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2011. He also demanded French onion soup and a chicken sandwich from Wendy’s to help his voice, both of which he did not receive.
While Danzig waits on news of his statue (and the whereabouts of his soup and sandwich), he will be performing with Samhain at Riotfest in Chicago this September as part of Riotfest’s “10 Years-10 Essential Albums.”
