Top 5 Active Rock Stratocaster Users

In honor of its patent anniversary, we’re going to dive into the guitar that has changed the world, the Fender Stratocaster. Rock and metal wouldn’t be the same without this legendary guitar, and it’s easy to see why. Here are our five of our favorite Active Rock Strat users:

Eddie Van Halen

LAS VEGAS, NV - MAY 27: Musician Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen performs at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 27, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Eddie certainly has had a lengthy career as one of the most iconic guitarists of all time. Today, he continues his legendary guitar career as an avid user of his own Strat. While his guitar is kind of a “monster” of guitar pieces, it is shaped after the style of a Strat and uses Strat pieces.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd

LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 04: Guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd performs at The Grammy Foundation's 'Music in Focus' at the Wilshire Ebell Theater on February 4, 2009 in Los Angeles, California.
As a majorly successful musician of the 90’s through today, Kenny has a sound all his own. Most of it can be attributed to his use of the Stratocaster. Kenny’s bluesy-rock riffs and sick licks coupled with the tone of his Strat has certainly landed him a spot on the top 5!

John Frusciante

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - APRIL 11: John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers performs during a concert at Federation Square on April 11, 2007 in Melbourne, Australia. Frusciante, who is in Australia with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for three sold-out shows, performed a 30-minute Mozart interpretation.
Known for his early contributions with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frusciante established himself as an excellent guitar player. He is still active today and is making new work with his own Stratocaster. His style of playing coupled with his Strat gives makes him one of the better Strat users of the day!

Billy Corgan

GLASTONBURY, ENGLAND - JUNE 30: Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins performs on the Other Stage during day 4 of the 2013 Glastonbury Festival at Worthy Farm on June 29, 2013 in Glastonbury, England.
Billy Corgan and the rest of the crew from Smashing Pumpkins shaped the alt-rock world forever. Billy Corgan’s grunge tone can be attributed to his use of the Strat! Corgan has proven that you don’t need to be playing hard rock or metal to be an epic Strat user!

The Edge

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - JULY 20: U2 Guitar player The Edge performs at the New Meadowlands Stadium on July 20, 2011 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Last, but certainly not least, is
Dave Evans, or “The Edge.” His contributions to music with U2 have changed the way the world looks at music. His use and mastery of the Stratocaster, combined with his creative style, makes him one of the better Strat users of the current age.
