Chester Bennington, who rocks with two of the biggest bands around, celebrates his birthday today!
After a rough childhood, a young Bennington broke into the music world when he joined Grey Daze in 1993 and gained local stardom in Phoenix. A few years later, he left the group over creative differences and moved to Los Angeles, where he met up and joined Linkin Park.
The group had a rocky start, with multiple rejections from labels, but after gaining a large local following, the band signed to Warner Brothers Records and released their debut album Hybrid Theory.
The record eventually went multi-platinum and laid the foundation for Linkin Park as a major player in the rock scene in the early 2000s. The album contained multiple Hot 100 singles and paved the way for their next album, Meteora, in 2003.
Hybrid Theory reached no. two on the Billboard 200, with every LP that followed going on to top the list. Over the next decade, the band would continue to amass one of the biggest followings in modern rock.
Outside of Linkin Park, Bennington joined Stone Temple Pilots last year as a replacement for ex-frontman Scott Weiland.
With their new lead vocalist, STP released an EP last fall titled High Rise, featuring the leadoff single “Out of Time.”
Bennington hasn’t turned his back on Linkin Park, however. He remains as dedicated to the band as ever, and the band will release their next record, The Hunting Party, in June.
Linkin Park will also tour around the world later this year, including a North American tour that kicks off in Florida this August.
Big things are on the horizon for Bennington and the rest of the guys of Linkin Park. Happy birthday Chester! We hope it’s the best one yet!
