DAVID TURRISI-CHUNG http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/davidturrisichung
David is suffering with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). For those unfamiliar with this little known cancer, MDS is a group of diseases causing progressive failure of the bone marrow to produce blood. There is no cure for MDS other than a bone marrow transplant of stem cells from a suitable donor. Otherwise, life expectancy for MDS patients is about three years on average. In my case, I am looking at less than three years, possibly a year, given my cytogenetic condition, which is a more aggressive form of MDS, my current blast level and my three year clock having started already. In the mean time, treatment will focus on reducing or preventing complications from excessive fatigue, bleeding, infections, bone marrow failure, organ failure and possibly other forms of cancer.

2.Join the BeTheMatch Registry (www.marrow.org) to be a potential life saver to someone—like me—in need of a stem cell transplant and request a free registration kit to be mailed to you to collect a swab of cheek cells with a postage paid return mailer. |

Penny Drive Fundrasier Save your pennies to raise money for the Breast Cancer 3-Day!
THE PLAN: The plan is to donate a penny. If you want to give 2, or 5 or 1000, I won't complain. But can you please donate at least one penny? But of course there is more to it then that. I would ask that before you send the penny; write the word "Live" on one side and "Life" on the other. Why? You ask.. Why not? I say. How great would it be to go to the store for groceries some day and get a penny with Live Life written on it in your change? You would instantly be reminded that you had a part in that.
Someone might get one, do an internet search to try and figure out what it's about, and come across this page. That person would then be able to be a part of this and help save lives. Because if Team Sole Patrol reach our goal, and “Live Life” would have to be written on every penny, and the team wouldn’t be able to train for months to come. (But if you just can't, don't sweat it. Still send your pennies.)You then tell everyone you know to send in a penny as well, and then pass it on again.
Once we reach the Goal, it will all be donated to the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Checks made payable to: BREAST CANCER 3-DAY. MAIL YOUR PENNIES TO:
Team Sole Patrol
C/O Carolyn Devery
712 Cedar Hill Road
Ambler, PA 19002-1505
THE GOAL: The initial goal seems huge, because it is. At the same time, it's not impossible to do. So the goal is: 3,500,000 PENNIES OR $35,000!
Donate directly online at: Here or contact Carolyn at (215) 872-3131

TrooperBecky by Wendy
Becky is 10 years old. She loves school, her friends, The Jonas Brothers and most of all loves Christmas. Christmas has always been Becky's favorite holiday. She starts as soon as Halloween is over. She gets her Christmas diary out and starts to clip the ads as soon as they come in.
Becky has been battling bone cancer for the last 2 1/2 years. The last two Christmas' were almost spent in the hospital. This year, her doctor gave us strict orders......Enjoy Thanksgiving and make this Becky's best Christmas ever. Unless we get a Holiday Miracle, this will most likely be Becky's last Christmas. There are two things I want for Christmas......1. A miracle and 2. To make this Christmas a Christmas that we will all remember for a life time, however long that may be. Please help us make Becky's Christmas a special one.
Thank you, Wendy Boucher

The Buddy Fund, operator of DogsInDanger.com gets serious about ending dog euthanasia in the US White Plains, NY – Hoping to shed light on the national tragedy that exists with dogs at shelters across the nation, The Buddy Fund announced today a dramatic expansion to its life saving mission. With new offices in White Plains and a full time staff, The Buddy Fund will expand its efforts at ending the killing of 4 million dogs a year by in essence finding a fitting home for each and every one of them.
The expansion will raise awareness of the funds current project, DogsInDanger.com as well as launch initiatives in animal intelligence testing and various national and regional legislative efforts.
DogsInDanger.com with it’s “in your face” approach highlights dogs scheduled for euthanasia in shelters around the country. Potential adopters, search, find and adopt these dogs saving them from certain death. The site has already saved over 24,000 lives in its two short years.
DogsInDanger co-founder, Alex Aliksanyan, an animal lover who funded the non-profit with his own money, said “I am thrilled with our expansion efforts and the staff we have brought together to carry out our mission. My vision is to one day live in a country where every dog has a home. Through perseverance and hard work I believe we can get there.”
The full time staff of four professionals is now working together to promote the life saving mission of the organization as well as begin new projects in animal welfare.
Support from the media and the general public will make this vision a reality. Visit the website at www.dogsindanger.com and make a critical difference in a dog’s life. |

DogsInDanger.com Wages War at Shelters Not Living Up to Mandate of Saving Animals The Today Show, ABC News, Good Morning America and People Magazine
all taking about DogsInDanger.com, an innovative website that is saving lives while raising the public’s awareness of the number of dogs being killed in shelters. In two years the site has helped save over 25,000 dogs from death, boasting an unheard of adoption rate of 87%. Yet large city shelters have refused to post names and photos of animals for rescue through www.DogsInDanger.com even though the service is proven and free.
“The public remains largely unaware of the number of dogs dying,” says Alex Aliksanyan founder of the website. “Shelters in major cities, especially in the 11 Northeast states, want to keep dog euthanasia out of the news. They would prefer to keep killing quietly instead of the adverse publicity that may be generated through lifting the veil. It’s simply bad publicity and thus bad for their careers.”
Because of this “no bad news” syndrome, the killing of dogs goes on behind closed doors. Shelter administrators, who conduct daily “Death Panels” decide which dogs are scheduled to die, then put on happy faces when facing the public.
“This is a story of right versus wrong,” Aliksanyan says. “It’s contrary to what I always thought Americans stood for. Here you have a quantifiably proven, cost free alternative that works, but the people that live off of our tax dollars refuse to embrace it. Instead they choose secrecy, much as a shield against their unconscionable conduct.”
When queried about death rates of dogs, shelters hide behind facts and figures, manipulating them to show they’re doing “the best they can” with available funding.
But they’re not. Fact is, shelters are actually foregoing funds because adoption fees generate $80-$100 per dog saved. By not availing themselves of a proven life-saver for these condemned dogs: www.DogsInDanger.com, shelters are needlessly killing animals that could be saved.
Launched in 2007, the website was an immediate and huge success with the national media, which initially saw it as sensationalistic. It caught on through spotlights provided by CNN, Good Morning America, The Today Show, BBC, CBC and USA Today, earning full-page coverage in People Magazine, which named Alex Aliksanyan, co-founder of www.DogsInDanger.com, “one of People Magazine’s Heroes Among Us.”
Viewers can go to the site, see a dog by name and photo, and learn exactly how much time that dog has to live. In essence ‘dead dogs walking.’ Saving a life adds a one of a kind incentive to rescue the dog!
“The first rule of the Doggie-Shelter World is ‘never the truth,’” Aliksanyan says. “But to achieve a ‘No-kill world,’ the truth needs to come out. The big city shelter propaganda machine may want us to go away but we will stay right here and keep shouting from the mountaintops of New York.” |

Bucks County Zoo to Host “Night at the Museum” Bucks County Zoo, the first exotic animal zoo in Bucks County and the first accredited educational facility, will host a fundraising event on Saturday, November 28 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Johnsville Centrifuge and Science Museum at 780 Falcon Circle, Warminster. Tickets are on sale at www.buckscountyzoo.com.
The event, called “Night at the Museum,” will feature guest speaker Clyde Peeling, a world-renowned reptile expert and adventure traveler, along with a selection of resident exotic animals. Beer and wine is being donated by local wineries and breweries, and local restaurants Bertucci’s, The Temperance House and others will provide food. DJ entertainment, and live and silent auctions are additional highlights of the evening.
The true highlight of the event, however, will be its unique and unusual setting – underneath the centrifuge inside a giant, round 11,000-square-foot dome. The centrifuge is a 10- by six-foot oblate sphere steel ball, or gondola, at the end of a 50-foot arm. John Glenn called it a “dreaded” and “sadistic” part of astronaut training. Time magazine referred to it as “a monstrous apparatus,” a “gruesome merry-go-round,” and, less originally, a “torture chamber.”
"It’s going to be awesome in there!” said Joe Fortunato, the Zoo’s executive director. “Operating this zoo is my life's dream. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations made at the event will help fund zoo operations over the next year and into the future." |

The Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail Our mission is to promote the construction, maintenance and use of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, and to undertake projects to enhance its recreational, natural and educational value through volunteer commitments of time, talents and fundraising. To provide for permanent amenities along the trail.
Our need for cleanup volunteers is great, and the best source of help should come from our local civic and business population. The township of Lower Merion has really been the force behind this "green rails to trails project" and they proved that by recently obtaining the money to pave the trail. Our goal is to match the effort in muscle and sweat by clearing years of trash and weeds.
2009 Proposed cleanup dates: May: 16/17 - w/scouts June: 20/21 July: 18/19 Sept: 12/13 Oct: 17/18 Nov: 14/15 Dec: 5/6 Please Note: Most clean up days are scheduled on Saturday mornings 9:30am.
