After 38 years in the Old Fort Washington School, the GATSME Model Railroad Club is forced to move. This will be our final open houses at this location. The 3,000 sq ft model railroad is nearly complete. It is set in the 1950’s when both steam engines and early diesel engines ran side by side. Many of the buildings are made by hand and the dramatic scenery reaches up to the ceiling. At all times six to ten trains will be in motion. The lights dim as night falls and most of the buildings have interior illumination.
Access is via six stairs down. While strollers are not permitted, the club has benches for the little ones. This is a great family event. Admission is free. Donations are welcome and tax deductible to the extent of the law.
The club is looking for a new location and hopes to be open by the holidays 2013. GATSME is a not for profit corporation recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3).
GATSME is easy to find at the Fort Washington Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. After paying the toll, continue straight on Pennsylvania Av, turn right at the Friendly’s onto Summit Av and then right on Prospect Av.
