On June 6, 2012 Wendy Parker, (daughter of the late Bert R Parker III, former chief of Glenolden Fire Company and DELCO Fire Marshall) woke up to excruciating chest and abdominal pain. Within hours of her arrival to the emergency department, she was diagnosed with severe liver failure and HELLP syndrome. In order to save her life, Wendy needed an emergency cesarean section to deliver her daughter, who was 2 1/2 months premature. HELLP syndrome is a rare, but life-threatening complication associated with 1 in every 1,000 pregnancies, the main source of treatment is to deliver the unborn child. Wendy's daughter Elaina weighed 3 lbs 4 ounces at birth, and was hospitalized for 42 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care.
On June 8, 2012 during Wendy's hospital recovery she was notified by her employer that she was terminated because she was 5 weeks short of her 1 year anniversary and therefore not entitled to a maternity leave. To add to Wendy's crisis, she was just informed that her daughter is blind due to complications of being a preemie, and in conjunction with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). Wendy currently owes an excess of medical expenses that are rapidly approaching $30,000 and counting. Elaina is currently scheduled for eye surgery in an effort to restore her vision (with a 50% chance). As you can imagine, this is devastating to Wendy. Wendy is searching for a new job as best as possible while caring for her daughter. However, the financial support from unemployment barely covers her monthly mortgage and car payment let alone the cost of living and ongoing medical bills.
Tickets are $35 in Advance, $40 at the door, or $60 per couple.
